History:
The word turquoise comes from the French expression “pierre tourques,” meaning “Turkish stone” as the stone was first brought to Europe through Turkey in the 13th century, though it was actually mined in Persia.
It was a prized stone in many cultures from ancient Egyptians, Persians, and Aztecs to Native Americans, believed to provide healing and protection, especially from falls, and was used to adorned everything from ceremonial masks to weapons to bridles.
